President's Party

Spring Fling

Location:  Buffalo Inn at South Park

Saturday, June 7, 2008 from 3:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m.

The "Spring Fling" is back! This year, it will be an event that we share with Gatherings. It will be held at the Buffalo Inn at South Park (Brownsville Rd. across from the fairgrounds oval). Meet up with old friends or meet some new friends; get involved or just mingle and socialize. We are joining forces with the Pittsburgh area singles’ activity group – Gatherings (same age range as us) – to welcome back the nice weather. Join in the festivities at South Park’s Buffalo Inn.  There will be volleyball, biking (if you bring one) and other outdoor activities from 3:00 to 5:30, a spaghetti/meatballs dinner (with salad, rolls and dessert) served from 5:45 to 6:45, followed by dancing to 60’s thru 80’s music from 7:00 to 10:00. Ski-clubbers, see the golf article for morning tee arrangements at South Park with Jan Wisniewski. Beer, wine, pop, water and snacks will be available throughout. Join us all day, begin with dinner, or come out for dancing – the choice is yours. Be sure to sign up in advance so we can better plan – and enjoy the discount. Also, this is an ideal time to renew your annual membership, so bring your checkbook and get your new membership card. There will be $10 rebates available for set-up/clean-up/kitchen volunteers, but you must arrange with the host ahead of time – and then show up. The sign-up deadline for the advance pricing is May 31, 2008. Mail newsletter coupon #1 with check payable to “PSC” to Jim Gump before the May 31 deadline.** All tickets will be held at the door – no self-addressed envelope necessary. The advance sign-up pricing (the deadline is May 31) is $15 for PSC Members and $20* for Non-members. It includes dinner. If you can't sign up early the prices at the door are $20 for PSC Members and $25* for Non-members (before 6:00 p.m., includes dinner). There is a $5 rebate on these prices if you join either group that day. If you're coming for the evening only (starting at 7:00 p.m.), entry is only $10 at the door. Chautauqua, NY Weekend

Thursday, June 19, 2008 to Sunday, June 22, 2008 

We will again be staying at the We Wan Chu Cabins. Join your PSC friends for a fun-filled weekend on Lake Chautauqua. Activities for the weekend include biking, golfing, boating, bocci, visiting Chautauqua Institute or just relaxing by the lake. The cabins sleep 4 and are equipped with a stove, fridge, and utensils. The fee includes 3 nights lodging and a catered dinner Saturday. Members only. Reserve a spot now by sending in a $50 deposit. The $90 Remainder is due by May 24, 2008. 16th Annual Myrtle Beach Dream Week

Arrive in SC on September 6 or 7, 2008 and depart on September 13, 2008

Join your PSC friends for one of our most successful trips. If you are a golfer, beacher, shopper, or just want to s-t-r-e-t-c-h out your summer, this trip is for you. As usual, we’ll be right on the beach in the Sands Resorts. This year you will have the option of a regular oceanfront hotel room, a one-bedroom oceanfront junior suite, or a three-bedroom ocean view executive suite. The hotel room and junior suite are two per room and the executive suite is four per suite. The executive suites have three bedrooms with two beds per bedroom, two bathrooms, a combined living and dining area, a full kitchen and a balcony. They come with a washer and dryer. They are in the building behind the Oceanside building. The hotel room is just a standard hotel room with two beds and a balcony. The junior suites have a bedroom with two beds, a small living and dining area, a kitchenette and a balcony.

This is limited to PSC MEMBERS ONLY. For the cost, choose your dates and options (see below). The sign-up deadline:  August 18, 2008. The limit was just extended to 100 PSC members. This trip always sells out very quickly, so sign up today.

LODGING OPTIONS WILL BE FIRST COME FIRST SERVED

The sooner you sign up, the more time we have to provide the lodging option that you request. All persons in your unit must arrive and depart on the same day. NO EXCEPTIONS. The resort has hot tubs, indoor and outdoor pools, a lazy river, a water park, restaurants, a bar and, of course, the beach and ocean plus all the attractions of Myrtle Beach. The trip will include a cocktail reception on Sunday evening, a full breakfast every morning and a group dinner at one of the local restaurants. I will also try and arrange a complimentary dinner at the hotel restaurant, but that may not materialize. And, of course, everyone on the trip will receive a traditional souvenir memento.

TRAVEL

As in the past, everyone is on their own for travel to and from Myrtle Beach. However, if you plan to drive, please indicate if you would be willing to take someone with you. Likewise, please indicate if you are looking for a ride. I will try and act as a clearing house to put interested parties in touch with each other. Final arrangements would be entirely by the individuals involved.

MYRTLE BEACH GOLF SHIRTS

Annual PSC Myrtle Beach golf shirts will be available again this year. Details and order forms will be included in a future newsletter.

GOLF

The three day golf package is golf on Monday, Wednesday and Friday. The five day golf package is for golf on Monday through Friday. This year, we have selected the following golf courses:

Monday – Meadowlands
Tuesday – Long Bay
Wednesday – Farmstead
Thursday – Crow Creek
Friday – Sandpiper

If you are interested in golfing but don’t want the full 3 or 5 day packages, please contact Jerry Pitzer. While we cannot make any guarantees, we will make every effort to accommodate your request to golf on specific days.

CASINO CRUISE

This year, we are planning to organize a casino trip. The local casino is on a ship that travels into international waters. Additional details will be provided in future newsletters. This will be an optional event and there may be a nominal charge.

PAYMENTS SCHEDULE

1st payment: $200.00 upon registration. Final payment: balance August 15, 2008. Use the MYRTLE BEACH COUPON in your newsletter to sign up.**

Fill out the Myrtle Beach coupon in The PSC News, our club newsletter; enclose your check payable to the Pittsburgh Ski Club in the amount of $200.00 or more; include a letter size self addressed stamped envelope; and mail it to the address listed in the newsletter article. If you want confirmation that your reservation has been received, include a self-addressed, stamped post card or an e-mail address. CANCELLATION POLICY

Cancellation fees include all resort and golf course cancellation charges and all non-recoverable costs to the PSC. A minimum $50.00 cancellation fee applies in all cases. See PSC Cancellation Policy below for the complete Policy.

E - $541.00 includes 6 nights accommodations, 6 breakfasts, 3 rounds of golf, Sept. 7, 2008 – Sept. 13, 2008
F - $677.00 includes 6 nights accommodations, 6 breakfasts, 5 rounds of golf, Sept. 7, 2008 – Sept. 13, 2008

CANCELLATION POLICY:  A minimum $50 cancellation fee applies in all cases. In addition, Resort cancellation fees apply, plus all non-recoverable cost, should your space not be re-sold.

To go on one of these trips, PSC members should check their newsletters for the trip coupon. Non-members should contact the PSC via e-mail at  info@pittsburghskiclub.org  or call Club Information at 412-281-SKIS.  Remember...you'll need to have a current membership card to go on any of these trips. If you need to begin or renew your membership, you can find full information and an immediate application when you access our Membership webpage by clicking on Apply for PSC Membership . Or, you can take a shortcut and click directly on the link APPLICATION , where you can get a blank application form which can be printed by your computer printer, then filled out and mailed separately with your PSC membership dues.

VERY IMPORTANT TRAVEL NOTICE:

All potential travelers signing up for Pittsburgh Ski Club travel events must be a current year member of the Pittsburgh Ski Club. If you are not a current year member at trip sign-up, you should send your membership application and your membership dues in a separate envelope to the address listed on the application. The trip application and your trip payment should be sent to the trip leader directly. If your membership is not current, your trip registration will not be allowed and your check and application will be returned. If you join and send your trip application and payment the same day, please inform the trip leader. Please read the Club's Walk-in and Travel Cancellation Policies which are inside every PSC News, our club's newsletter. The Walk-In and Cancellation Policies apply for each trip, in addition to travel agency cancellation policies.
