SKIING INSTRUCTION FOR THE 2007-2008 SEASON

 

As a Pittsburgh Ski Club member, you can take advantage of discounted downhill skiing and/or snowboard lessons at local ski resorts. Lessons are available for all levels of skiers, from "Learn-To-Ski" to advanced. Many of these lessons are partially subsidized by the PSC and WPSC. Don't miss these great opportunities.


PRE-SEASON BODY CONDITIONING CLASS FOR THE 2007-2008 SKI SEASON

WHEN:  MONDAY DECEMBER 3, 2007

With the snow beginning to fly, the opening day of ski season is just around the corner.  Are you prepared to take on this physical task we call skiing? We can help.  Please join us in this interactive class presented by LuAnne Smail. LuAnne has studied Physical Education at California University of PA and is on the ski patrol at Peak and Peek. She will be presenting different stretches, exercises, and drills geared towards us skiers that will help us prevent injuries and to help get us ready to take on the slopes. Wear appropriate work out clothes and bring either a yoga mat or a beach towel. This is a member’s only event. Remember to bring your membership card for admission.

Directions:  Get off at the Banksville exit of the Parkway west, follow Banksville Rd. for about 2.7 miles, turn right onto Beverly Rd. Go 0.7 miles and then turn left onto Cochran Rd. (Yellow Belt). Follow Cochran Rd. (or 19 S. signs) for 0.5 miles and turn right onto Cedar Blvd. (just before the tall hill ahead). If you see the high school you went too far. Go past the tennis courts and at the first light turn left up into Mt. Lebanon rec. center. It looks like you are going into a park. The rec. center is on the right.

OR...

Get off at the Greentree exit off of the Parkway West and go SW on Greentree Rd. towards Mt. Lebanon. At the end of Greentree Rd., make a left at the Giant Eagle (this is Cochran Rd.).  Follow Cochran Rd. (or 19 S. signs) for 1.3 miles and turn right onto Cedar Blvd. (just before the tall hill ahead). If you see the high school you went too far. Go past the tennis courts and at the first light turn left up into Mt. Lebanon rec. center. It looks like you are going into a park. The rec. center is on the right.

PSC’S 13TH ANNUAL “LEARN TO SKI” DAY FOR 2007-2008 WILL BE AT 7-SPRINGS

In conjunction with the WPSC, on Sunday, January 6, 2008, the Beginner, Intermediate Ski, Telemark, and Snowboard Program will be offered at Seven Springs with the special rates. You will receive a lift ticket, complete rental equipment and a 1½ hour lesson. The lift ticket is good from 9 am to 4 pm with early 8:30 am ticket pick-up (at the ski school in the skier service bldg.) at Seven Springs lodge. This is a WPSC sponsored program subsidized by both the WPSC and PSC. Notice: YOU MUST BE A PSC MEMBER TO PARTICIPATE IN THIS OFFER. Fill in the newsletter coupon. Don.t forget to include which package you want.

Deadline: December 21st, 2007. Your application must reach the Director of Ski Instruction by that date. Participation is limited, first come, first serve.

Level 1 (Beginner)Ski $10 (limited area use lift ticket)
Level 1 (Beginner) Telemark $10 (limited area use lift ticket)
Lesson time: 10 am, 11 am, noon, 1pm or 2pm

Level 1 (Beginner) Snowboard $20 (Limited area use lift ticket)
Lesson time: 10am, 12 noon, or 2p,m

Level 2 (intermediate) Ski $20
Level 2 (intermediate) Telemark $20
Level 2 (intermediate) Snowboard $30

Lesson time: 10am or 2pm


 PENNSYLVANIA SKI AREAS ASSOCIATION'S "LEARN TO SKI PROGRAM" FOR  2007-2008

                                $30.00 FOR LIMITED LIFT TICKET, LESSON AND RENTALS

A special $30 package deal for a beginner lift ticket (no upgrade), one beginner group lesson and complete rental equipment is now available through the Pennsylvania Ski Area Association. The package is good at 21 resorts including Blue Knob, Hidden Valley, Seven Springs, Tussey Mountain, Mystic Mountain (Nemacolin Woodlands), and Whitetail.

Quantities are limited, and orders must be received on or before December 14, 2007. The coupons are good anytime, including weekends and holidays. Contact your preferred ski area for hours of operation.

These coupons are good only for the 2007-2008 ski season. The passes are non-refundable, may have chairlift restrictions, and are not for resale.

Minimum age requirements are in effect. For Blue Knob and Whitetail, children must be at least 8 to use coupon. Seven Springs and Hidden Valley will take children as young as 7 while Tussey will take 6 year olds. Also, if you have a child in 4th grade, they can get a special FREE ski lesson and 3 FREE lift passes.

HIDDEN VALLEY LESSONS FOR 2007-2008

Hidden Valley is no longer offering the six week lesson program because there were low turnouts in previous years.
This year they are offering some lesson packages and deals for beginners and seasoned skiers alike. If you would like to take advantage of these, just show up at the Hidden Valley ticket window.

10:30 am and 2 pm


LEARN TO SKI OR BOARD

Holidays, Sat & Sun  $59.00
Mon-Fri   $39.00

Includes:  Beginning lesson, beginner area Lift pass and rental equipment.   For $15, you can upgrade your lift pass for all of the lifts.

IMPORTANT NOTICE:

The Pittsburgh Ski Club offers ski lessons at a discount to MEMBERS ONLY. You must be a current year member. If you are not a current year member at sign up, you may enclose a separate check and the membership application with your lesson application and lesson check.  If you need to begin or renew your membership, you can click on APPLICATION to get a blank application form which can be printed by your computer printer, then filled out and mailed. If your membership is not current, your registration will not be allowed and your check and application will be returned.
